Hi, I’m Meaghan!
Welcome to my little corner of Ladysmith, where creativity and sewing come together! I’ve been sewing for over 20 years, but it wasn’t until the birth of my first child in 2020 that I rediscovered my passion for making clothes. Sewing has given me the freedom to create fun, unique garments for my whole family—whether it’s adding a wild new print to my daughter’s wardrobe or designing the perfect outfit I’ve always wanted but could never find in a store.
Sewing is such an empowering skill—it opens up endless possibilities for creative fun. I want to share that joy with you! I almost gave up on sewing years ago after taking formal classes as a teenager, which made me believe there was only one way to sew—by following rigid patterns for clothes that were never made for my body. I’d spend hours, trying to make garments that never fit quite right.
Then, about four years ago, a friend completely changed my perspective on sewing. She taught me that I could create clothing I actually wanted to wear, with patterns that fit my body. I discovered an entire world of indie designers online, offering patterns for garments that fit my style and my shape. I learned I could make clothes that were even better than what I could find in stores! As a plus-size woman, the online sewing community helped me rediscover my love for clothing and gave me a new sense of body celebration in the process. I also found amazing fabric stores that offered prints I was excited to turn into garments for my family and myself!
One of the best compliments I’ve ever received was when someone told me they loved my me-made dress and said I looked like Miss Frizzle. As a ‘90s kid, that was absolutely the highlight of my sewing journey! Oh, and let’s not forget—making my own clothes means everything comes with pockets—big, functional ones!
Now, I want to share this love of sewing with you. If you’re on Vancouver Island or in the Ladysmith area (or willing to make the trip!), I’d love to help you learn to sew. Whether you’re just starting out or want to improve your skills and master pattern fitting, I’m here to help. As a (new) local Ladysmith business, I’m all about building a supportive, creative community where we can inspire each other.
