The Beatbox Romper is my daughter’s absolute favourite pattern. It is made by the awesome pattern company Ellie and Mac and comes in kids sizing from 3 months to 14 years. My kiddo loves the pocket and the comfy fit (plus the fun fabric we pick together). I love this pattern because it comes with so many different options to make and is a super easy outfit to throw on her no matter what we have planned for the day.
With spring coming up soon (can you tell I want the snow to go away), I felt that this was the perfect pattern for April’s Mini Maker class. The pattern has many options, but my fav is the hoodie with no sleeves. It is so versitile while the weather is warming up, but still not making up its mind. Kiddos can wear this over a long or short sleeve t-shirt, or completely on its own. The legs are also designed to be cuffed up or full-length. In my opinion it makes it great for spring walks, when the kiddo decided, they just HAVE TO wade into that stream/ocean/puddle, but can also be worn on its own as an easy-to-throw-on outfit when its hot in summer. The pocket on the front gives them a space to keep and collect any little treasures too.
As far as sewing this item, it is a great beginner project. You can have fun with exciting fabric prints and colour blocking. It also gets you familiar with attaching pockets and hoods – I love this skill because it allows you to add things to store-bought clothes as well. The jumpsuit is pulled on through the neck hole, which makes it very easy to construct for those who are just learning how to use their sewing machine.
If you think this might be a fun project to sew, why not join me in April to learn to make the pattern in a fun a supportive environment! Mini Makers classes are designed for beginners and open to anyone wanting to sew for kids. Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their tiny people along while we work too.
